The Pirates showed a lot of perseverance never giving up battling it out in the heat on Wednesday and in the rain on Thursday to bring home a total of four first place trophies. Freshman Maximus Tutone placed 1st in the JV Boys Singles Championship match. Junior Briana Reyes placed 1st in the Varsity Constellation Girls Singles bracket. Seniors Madison Danielson and Kohlton Landaverde placed 1st in the Varsity Constellation Mixed Doubles bracket. Due to conflicting schedules Hughes Springs allowed some teams to enter Varsity teams in the JV tournament making the competition level tougher on novice players. JV games were 30 minute drop ball time limit with no ads and Varsity match play was 6 Set - 5 All tiebreakers with no ads. PITT Tennis next tournament is in Pleasant Grove. JV will play on Tuesday, March 19th and Varsity on Friday, March 22nd.

Lady Pirates fall in playoffs to eventual regional finalist

For the Pittsburg Lady Pirates, the ride ended too soon. A season that saw the team state ranked from November to January and battle through a tough district 15-4A and do so without backing down from any team saw the Lady Pirates reach the playoffs only to draw a perennially tough Canton Eaglette squad in the bi-district round at Tyler Junior College’s Wagstaff Gymnasium.
