Pleasant Smiles Dental Joins Camp County Chamber

Brothers Dr. Husnain Shahid, DDS, Mt Pleasant valedictorian and Dr. Rehan Shahid, DDS, MSHM, MBA have two dental centers, Omaha Family Dental in Omaha, Texas, and Pleasant Smiles Dental, in Mt Pleasant, Texas. The Mt Pleasant location held a ribbon cutting for the Pittsburg Camp County Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, May 13, at noon, for their new membership with the Pittsburg Camp County Chamber. Standing in front of the clinic with the two brothers were staff technicians for the twelve operatories (examination rooms), which support four dentists, that cover from simple dental evaluations to highly technical sedation surgical procedures. The Chamber was represented by Executive Director Connie Bradshaw, Assistant Jean Frankovitch and Chamber President James Wallace. Executive Director Bradshaw asked that those attending the ribbon cutting sign their names and keep the ribbon as a recognition of their membership.

School Principal Kisses a Pig, Gets Slimed

The Pittsburg Primary School campus held a fund raiser last fall for the Parent Teacher Organization to help fund special events held throughout the school year. The conditions for the fund raiser were that, if the campus students could raise $2,000, the principal, the assistant principal, and the special programs administrator would each kiss a pig. If they would also raise an additional $1,000, then the three campus leaders would also submit to being slimed. The students rose to the challenge and raised over $3,000. The Principal, Assistant Principal; and Special Programs Administrator made good on their promises.

4-H Banquet Shines on 2026

On Monday, May 4, 2026, the Pittsburg 4-H Club held their annual banquet at 6:00 pm in the Aubrey Pilgrim building of the Pittsburg ISD Administration ccomplex. Of the 60 active members, there were about 40 members in attendance, including parents. Pittsburg County Extension Agent, Kaycee Davis, opened the meeting with 4-H member DeClan Knabenshue leading the pledge of allegiance and 4-H member Haizlee Sorensen leading the prayer.

Gazette, Bee, Tribune consolidate offices

The office of The Pittsburg Gazette has been relocated to 411 W. Ferguson Road in Mount Pleasant as of Friday, May 1. The Gazette will share office space with the Steel Country Bee and Mount Pleasant Tribune at this location. Multiple factors caused the decision for the relocation including an ownership change to Texas Local Media, a group of over 40 community newspapers in the state.

Peach Queen Court Is Chosen

On Thursday, May 7, the 2026 Peach Queen Court was announced, in a reception room at the Pittsburg Bank, Pittsburg. James Wallace, program director, said that the contestants raised $51,014.03 of which $30,000 of the monies raised will go to Peach Queen contestant scholarships. The rest will be used for the Frontier Days celebration in September, and the Peach Queen Coronation during thatweek. The program theme this year is Red, White, and Blue to stay in line with the national sesquicentennial celebration. The Queen’s Court are being fitted for their gowns next week.
