Tax Assessor of 20 years says goodbye

Not many can say that the job they had in high school would become the career that they would have for over the next 43 years, but Pittsburg native Gale Burns did just that. Burns started at the Camp County Tax Assessors office her senior year of high school, as part of the school’s work-study program that allowed students to leave school early who had jobs. She started as an office worker, doing bookwork and other tasks to help out the other employees.

The Pittsburg chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) held their annual march on Jan. 18 to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. The walk was led by the Pittsburg chapter NAACP president and Metropolitan Baptist Church Pastor Patrick Lloyd. A large group of Pittsburg residents turned out to honor Dr. King and what he has done for this country.
