Mrs. Wright’s 8th grade Advanced Social Studies classes had the opportunity to participate in the annual VFW Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest. This year’s theme was “How Are You Showing Patriotism and Support for Our Country?”
On January 21, 2026, at noon, in the First United Methodist Church fellowship hall, Roni Arias, immediate past Rotary president, introduced Jeff Kilburn, who had been sponsored by Rotarian Jennifer Broers.
Camp County Commissioners Court met at 8:30 am on January 21, 2026, to a full agenda. County Judge A J Mason and all four of the County Commissioners were present. In attendance were City of Pittsburg Economic Development Director Marina Garcia- Heredia, County Attorney Jase Wallace, County EMS Director Mike Reynolds, County Auditor Christie Davis, Sheriff John Cortelyou, and Camp County Democratic Party Chair Phyllis Parnell.
The Pittsburg Chapter of the Lions Club met on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at noon, in the main conference room of the NTCC Hanson-Sewell Center, in Pittsburg. President Mary Collins opened the meeting discussing upcoming programs. She then introduced the guest speaker, Sabin Warrick, long time citizen, business man, board member, and active community member. Sabin Warrick spoke first about the Arts Council that was formed in February, 2021, with James Wallace, Carolyn Franks, Deborah Porter, Kay GreenandRandyCline. Mr.Warrick said, ‘The goal was for the Arts Council to encourage local participation of all ages and introduce the community to new arts activities, events and education, whether it be musical performances, theater, dance, design, drawing and painting. Our local talent could easily encourage our local community. There are so many talented people here. This also presents the ability for the community to meet and create with like-minded people.”
Ian Griffin, local Pittsburg author, just won The International Press Awards Distinguished Favorites honor in the cross-genre category, and also won The International Firebird Book Awards in the war-genre in a book competition sponsored by Speak Up Talk Radio, for his book
