At the January 21st regular meeting, the Camp County Commissioners Court unanimously approved a resolution supporting new legislation that would exempt Texas counties from paying the state’s hotel occupancy tax. The state hotel occupancy tax is charged to anyone paying for a hotel room costing $15 or more per day.

Boy Scouts of America, as of February, 2025, is now called Scouting America because they have become more family inclusive. Their focus is on developing young boys and girls into well-rounded citizens. Scouts are Cub Scouts in a pack for children ages 5 to 10 who then move up to Boy and Girl Scouts in a troop starting at age 11 to 18 years old. In 2016, girls were added to the Packs up to fourth grade, then becoming independent dens within the troop until they transition out, along with the boys, at age eighteen. Both boys and girls can become Eagle Scouts. Scouting America now encompasses the whole family. Dad and Mom with both their boys andgirlscangoonthecampingtrips. Thereare programs that include autistic and physically challenged scouts.
Donald Pipkins, 71, and his dogs, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026, during the fire that consumed his house in the 900 block of Quitman, in Pittsburg. His body has been sent to Dallas for autopsy, so the actual cause of death is not known. Others, in the house at the time of the fire, were not injured.
