The Pittsburg Pirate and Lady Pirate track teams headed to Texarkana for the 15-4A District Meet last week looking to nab slots in the upcoming area meet.
The Pittsburg Pirates maintained momentum in the district race with a victory in their only game of last week, knocking off Sulphur Springs, 4-2, at the Big Green last Tuesday night.
The Pittsburg Lady Pirates battled for seven innings, but fell just short in their home game last Tuesday against Pleasant Grove.
Northeast Texas Community College Rodeo Athlete Kent Sheldon was elected to the Student Director position for the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Southern Region for 2023-2025 Season. Kent will graduate this spring from NTCC and move on to Texas A&M University- Commerce to continue his Rodeo career. Sheldon is from Hanford, California originally and has Rodeoed for NTCC the past two seasons. While at Northeast Texas Community College, Kent has majored in Associates of Science in Agriculture with a certificate in Farm and Ranch Management. As Student Director, Sheldon will oversee stock draws, student code of conduct, assisting the Faculty Director and Southern Region Secretary in running the events. Kent will also interact with Region and National Sponsors, including attending the both the College National Finals Rodeo in Wyoming and PRCA National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas, Nevada. Kent will be the voice of the entire student body of the NIRA Southern Region at meetings and events.
It was a rough week in the playoff hunt for the Pittsburg Lady Pirate softball team. The team kicked off the week with a big home game with implications for the standings, followed by a road test against the district’s top team.
