Absent lawmakers stymie special session

Nearly 60 Texas House Democrats left the state last Monday for Washington, D.C. in an effort to stop passage of a Republican-led elections bill. This in effect blocks all legislation since the House doesn’t have a quorum present. As the Austin American Statesman and other media outlets reported, Gov. Greg Abbott has threatened to arrest the absent lawmakers upon their return. While in Washington, the legislators have met with Vice President Kamala Harris and several Democratic senators to push passage of a federal elections bill that is currently stalemated.

A friend of mine shared a piece of her heart with me this past week. In the stanzas of a poem that she wrote, I saw the story of the lives of so many of us. So many times we let fear keep us from doing the things that we were called to do, the very purpose that we are here on this earth. We all have one, some maybe even more than one, but I am a firm believer that every single one of us has a purpose, a destiny. Far too often we let people and circumstances keep us from reaching the lofty heights that we are destined to reach. Let me share her words with you.
