The time after WWII was a continuing of our nation’s recovery and the beginning of a new and improved life. Actually, it was the best of times and the worst of times. For the worst, look at the American farm, which began to collapse in the war’s aftermath. The small, family owned farm, which had organically fed our country so well, was slowly pushed aside as large conglomerates took control. Combined with this were the beginnings of a chemical revolution that radically changed the face of farming.

Pssst… can I tell you a secret? Please do not tell the nice ladies at the Gazette office but I have to admit something, I’m lonely. Everyone is very nice at the office, but they are so busy and are in and out a lot during the week. In the evening and on weekends, I’m here all by myself. Plus, I’ve recently learned that some of the guests to the office do not like cats or are allergic to them. I just don’t understand why people wouldn’t like little ‘ole me.

November 22, 1963 – My mother was in her Glee Club class when it was announced President Kennedy had been shot and killed. After school, she and some of her classmates, who weren’t even Catholic, went to a Catholic church to pray. “It didn’t matter your religion, we were all hurting as a country”, said my mom, JoAnn Bilbrey. The country mourned together.
