Texans to vote on Constitutional Right to Farm

Texas voters will go to the polls on November 7 to determine the fate of 14 Constitutional Amendments. The first among these are Proposition 1, or the House Joint Resolution 126. The resolution proposes a constitutional amendment to “Protect a person’s right to engage in generally accepted farm, ranch, timber production, horticulture, or wildlife management practices on real property that the person owns or leases.” This amendment would require, for example, local governments to provide evidence that a regulation or law that would encroach on farmland or farm practices, endangers public health. It would also require city governments to provide ample reasoning before placing a ban on farming within a specified area.

DPS reminds Texans about dangers of fentanyl during Fentanyl Poisoning Awareness Month

AUSTIN – This October marks the first ever Fentanyl Poisoning Awareness Month in Texas as established by Governor Greg Abbott earlier this year. In order to help the state continue its fight against this dangerous and deadly drug, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is increasing its public awareness campaign and reminding Texans to take action now in order to help save lives.

Junior High staff recognized with Pirate Gold Award

Four Junior High staff members were recognized during October’s PISD School board meeting with a Pirate Gold Award. Jennifer Styles, principal of the junior high, presented the awards. The awards were given to: Glenda Maxwell, the junior high’s librarian, Shele Reyes, the Advanced Reading Languages Arts instructor, Michelle Bell, the Dyslexia Specialist on campus, and Anisha Miner, an instructional aid on campus.
