Habitat for Humanity of Camp County celebrates 25 years with new office

On Sunday, October 1, the local Habitat for Humanity celebrated an unofficial 25 years of community service with an open house tour of their new office building. While the building isn’t quite finished, the office was able to open regardless in celebration of a number of overlapping dates. World Habitat Day was celebrated on October 1, as was Former President Jimmy Carter’s 99th birthday. The day also served as Camp County Habitat’s unofficial 25th anniversary. Executive Director Linda Baxter explained that, while the non-profit was officially recognized in 1999, the organization started out as a small group of pastors in 1998.

Over 70 classmates from across the nation converged on their beloved hometown, transforming Pittsburg, Texas, into a hub of reminiscence and camaraderie.

Texas legislature proposes broadband amendment

During the 2023 legislative session, Texas lawmakers passed the House Joint Resolution 125, which proposes an amendment to the state constitution that would create the “Broadband Infrastructure Fund.” This proposed fund would be a special fund outside of the state’s normal revenue fund and would be funded by allocation from the Texas legislature. The fund would provide a means of financing the development and expansion of broadband infrastructure within the state. If approved by Texas voters, the amendment would take effect on January 1, 2024 and would not exceed a total amount of $5 billion.
