The Pittsburg Police Department has installed a prescription drug disposal box where residents can dispose of their leftover medication, no questions asked.
CASA of Titus, Camp, and Morris Counties is pleased to welcome Brenda Goth. Brenda took an oath before the Honorable Judge Saucier in Titus County Court on July 15, 2020. Mrs. Goth completed 30 hours of training and courtroom observation. Mrs. Goth is the newest CASA Volunteer who has accepted her first case and advocating for a child that is in the foster care system. CASA volunteers work for the best interest of the child/children making sure they have a safe, permanent home as quickly as possible. CASA volunteers are citizens in our community, just like you, that want to make a difference in a child/ children’s life while they are removed from their families and placed in foster care. Christi Denney recently presented the Northeast Texas Community College Foundation with $2,000 to support the Nita DeWoody Memorial Scholarship fund. The money was raised through the Jingle Bell Jog (5K) held last December in Pittsburg, which Denney organized in memory of her late sister, DeWoody.
For their performance in challenging honors courses at NTCC in relation to their peers, two Presidential Scholars will win $100 checks. NTCC’s Dr. Jerry Wesson Scholar, Verania Leyva Garcia, who finished this past May, was the sophomore who took all twenty-one hours of requisite honors courses, including some rigorous special courses under Dr. Drew Murphy in chemistry, and ended with the highest GPA. Katelyn Marie Cox won her award as an honors freshman, ranking number one in the Stat-Psych Honors Seminar taught this past spring by Dr. Karyn Skaar and Dr. Paula Wilhite.
