Last Thursday the Pittsburg Lions Club kicked off another active Lions Club year. They said thank you to outgoing President, Rhett McCollough and welcomed this year’s new president, Sandy Thompson. Other officers were installed as well: Kistin Kilburn as Vice President, Sarah Johns as Secretary, Frank Harrison as Treasurer, Kathy Carpenter as Tail Twister and Tim Nicholson as Lion Tamer. Pittsburg Lions have been standing strong amid this difficult time and continuing to quietly serve and meet needs in our community.
Steve and Weida Borkowski recently presented the Northeast Texas Community College Foundation with a $1,000 scholarship. The funds will provide a Work4College scholarship to support Lynda Cruzgoo, a sophomore student in NTCC’s Carroll Shelby Automotive Program. Pictured at the check presentation (from left) is: Steve Borkowski, Weida Borkowski, Lynda Cruzgoo, Ron Luellen, Shelby Program Director, and Dr. Jonathan McCullough, NTCC Executive Vice President for Advancement. Over the last two months, work has continued on the site of the incoming truck stop and IHOP restaurant. Concrete has now been poured on the first portion of the driveway for the businesses, and the crews have maintained progress on the rest of the site. A representative of Kim’s Convenience Stores told The Gazette that the company is “hopeful for February 1” as a completion date. GAZETTE PHOTO / DI DUNCAN
