Johnny Unitas. “Mary Poppins.” Willie Mays earned a $105,000 per season contract with the Giants. “Gilligan’s Island.” Brezhnev replaced Khrushchev. “My Fair Lady.” Nobel Peace Prize to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Nelson Mandela imprisoned. Sandy Koufax struck out 3 batters with 9 pitches. Kenya became a republic under President Kenyatta. Remember? Do you also remember Jewel Akens? He released a single (remember those?) in 1964 entitled, “The Birds and the Bees,” a song about “a thing called love.” We sing that often. We are not talking about love or the facts of human life; we’re focused on pollination in plants and the creatures that do the pollination work. That also is about “the birds and the bees and the flowers and the trees.”
