AUSTIN — Requirements in House Bill 3, the sweeping school finance law passed by the Texas Legislature in 2019, require the state to plan for long-term workforce development.
County Judge A. J. Mason opened the two sealed bids received for the construction for the Texas Historical Commission Round X Grant Project. The grant is not a normal grant as most are a 50/50 split between the state and county respectively. However, in this case the grant was an emergency grant because of the continuing damage to the sub-structure of the building. This grant is scheduled at a 70/30 split between state and county respectively.
Pittsburg High School (PHS) SkillsUSA members competed at the District-5 Competition this past weekend, Feb. 7 -8 in Waco, Texas. Students competed in the following areas: Welding, Promotional Bulletin Board, Community Service Project, Nurse Assisting, Medical Assisting, First Aid/CPR, Medical Terminology, Robotics-Urban Search and Rescue, Job Interview, Applied Engineering, Quiz Bowl, Health Knowledge Quiz Bowl, Job Skill Demonstration – Open, and Photography. The following students Placed in the top three spots in their competition. These Students will be advancing to state to compete in Corpus Christi in April.
After 69 years, a United States soldier’s remains have finally been accounted for. United States Army Private First Class Junior C. Evans went missing during withdrawal after an attack from Chinese Communist Forces in the Chosin Reservoir on December 12, 1950, and was presumed dead in 1954. He was a member of Company I, 3rd Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division. Evans was one of over 4,000 listed as Missing in Action during the Battle of Chosin Reservoir.
