The Camp County Commissioners held their last regular meeting for the month of May, and awarded bids for Camp County Culverts, Road Oil, and Road Materials. All those who submitted bids were awarded due to not only one bidder having all the resources needed.
Over Memorial Day weekend, a fatal shooting transpired at a private party. The incident occurred around 12:50 a.m. on May 24 resulting in the death of Jamarion Demonte Brown, 23. Brown, a Mount Pleasant native and basketball athlete for Henderson State University, was shot in the head and flown to a hospital in Tyler for treatment but died from severe injuries.
On May 26, Pittsburg hosted its annual Memorial Day event. This year, the event was held at The American Legion building due to inclement weather, and nearly every seat in the building was taken.
At the latest meeting of the Pittsburg City Council, Mayor David Abernathy and Council Member Larry Hamilton swore an oath of office. Both positions were unopposed this year, causing a cancellation of the city’s May election. Rico Willis was reelected to Mayor Pro Tem at the meeting.
The Pittsburg Independent School District held their latest meeting on Monday, May 12. At the meeting, the board heard presentations regarding the valedictorian and salutatorian of the Pittsburg High School graduating class of 2025.
