Paris schools deal blows to Pirate soccer programs; Pirates bounce back against ND

The Pittsburg Pirate soccer team had to shake off a rough patch of their season last week after suffering their first district losses of the season last week – back-to-back 1-0 heartbreakers against North Lamar and Pleasant Grove. The Pirates had to put the losses behind them and refocus as, just before the start of the second half of district, Pittsburg traveled to Paris to take on the district-leading Wildcats.

The Wrestling State Championships took place at the Berry Center in Cypress on Feb. 18 and 19. Pittsburg Pirate Mason Knight (left, in black) won a round, but lost two, and did not place at the state level this year. But this freshman ended the season with 19 wins out of a total of 23 rounds. PISD head wrestling coach Duane Johnson said, “Mason is just a Freshman this season and has several more chances to get back to the Championship. We are proud of what he accomplished and how he represented Pittsburg ISD.” COURTESY PHOTO
