Located across from where the Northeast Texas Rural Heritage Museum now sits and just north of the tracks, the Clayton Hotel was a large and luxurious building, offering room and board to the many people stopping in Pittsburg. Mayor Abernathy explained that when fire escapes became mandatory for multiple story buildings, the owner of the Clayton attached ropes to large bolts set in the walls and called it good enough.

The East Texas Council of Governments (ETCOG) will host a hiring event for full-time, part-time, and PRN GoBus Operator positions on Thursday, October 27, in Longview. GoBus is ETCOG’s rural, demand response public transit system with about 30 vehicles on the road making approximately 500 trips a day, five days a week, throughout 14 counties in East Texas.
