Located across from where the Northeast Texas Rural Heritage Museum now sits and just north of the tracks, the Clayton Hotel was a large and luxurious building, offering room and board to the many people stopping in Pittsburg. Mayor Abernathy explained that when fire escapes became mandatory for multiple story buildings, the owner of the Clayton attached ropes to large bolts set in the walls and called it good enough.

ETCOG to Host Hiring Event for GoBus Operator Positions

The East Texas Council of Governments (ETCOG) will host a hiring event for full-time, part-time, and PRN GoBus Operator positions on Thursday, October 27, in Longview. GoBus is ETCOG’s rural, demand response public transit system with about 30 vehicles on the road making approximately 500 trips a day, five days a week, throughout 14 counties in East Texas. Learn more about GoBus at the job fair, which will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn in Longview, located at 905 E Hawkins Pkwy. Interested applicants may apply ahead online at www.etcog. org/employment to secure an interview from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. the same day.

Counting Stars Ranch receives special donation

A generous donation was extended to Counting Stars Ranch by the Knights of Pythias Lodge in Longview, TX. The Knights of Pythias are a charitable organization dedicated to helping the less fortunate and youth through educational initiatives. They also provide charitable donations to other organizations who are dedicated to the well-being of those in need or program awareness in the local community.
