Dr. Gerald Cope Drew

Dr. Gerald Cope Drew, DVM, passed away on July 8, 2023 in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on November 7, 1928, to Melvin Glen and Bessie Cope Drew in Pittsburg, Texas, where he grew up. He attended college at Sam Houston State where he earned a Bachelor and Masters degree in Agriculture and then earned a doctorate in veterinary medicine at Texas A&M University. He practiced veterinary medicine for 38 years. Gerald loved his family and was very proud of their accomplishments. He will be remembered with love for his kindness and loyalty. He was a good man. Close to his heart was his airplane which he loved to fly! He is survived by his wife, Ruth Drew; daughter, Cheryl Kubacak, Greg and son Jerry Drew, Jr. and their mother Peggy Seay, Laura Allen (Russ Mead), Jeffrey Allen (Patty), Juli Martinez (Edward), John Allen (Kathy); grandchildren, Katie Drew, Taylor Kubacak, Raleigh Kubacak, Allie Jordan (Gavin), Carl Martinez (Kaylyn), Leah Martinez, Stephanie Martinez (Danny Hibbard), Mason Allen, Marshall Allen, Merritt Allen, Marie Allen, Elizabeth Allen and Andrew Allen and four great-grandchildren, Laykin Jordan, Arlo Hibbard Martinez, and Nora and Autumn Martinez. There will be a viewing at the Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton, Thursday, July 13, 2023. The family be there 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Burial will be in Pittsburg, Texas with a memorial for the family. James Mitchell Young

James Mitchell Young, 80, of White Oak, Texas passed away June 1, 2023 at Christus Medical Center in Longview, Texas. Hew as born in Pittsburg, on September 19, 1942 to father Mitchell Young and mother Inez Hobbs White. He attended Pittsburg ISD and graduated from PHS in 1961, served in the US Navy, and earned many college degrees. He worked in the Civil Service for the military for most of his career until retiring in Virginia. In 2018, he moved to White Oak where he was able to re-establish contact with some of his High School classmates, took trips to visit many people who he had met and worked with throughout his career, and joined a Silver Sneakers class at Anytime Fitness in White Oak where he met a lot of new friends.

James Gray McWhorter

James Gray McWhorter

James Gray McWhorter of Pittsburg, Texas died at his home on Sunday, June 25, 2023. He was born on July 30, 1935 in Winnsboro, Texas to the late Merkil David and Mamye McWhorter. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg. He graduated from Baylor University and went to work for General American Oil Company if Texas in Dallas as a geologist. He met his wife Ann McMillen in September of 1960 at General American Oil Company and they were later married on December 10, 1960. On June 1, 1964 he went to work for A.H. Robins Pharmaceuticals as a medical representative and in 1988, A.H. Robins merged with Wyeth. In 1999 he retired with thirty five years of service.
