City council and Pittsburg ISD school board elections initially slated for May 2 have been canceled, according to City Secretary Stacy Dorsett and Pittsburg ISD Superintendent Terry Waldrep. Both the city and the school district may choose to do this if there are no opponents for each candidate running for places.

During the rather irregular meeting of the Pittsburg ISD School Board meeting Mar. 23, the Board approved a motion to continue the teachers’ salaries during the current school shutdown. The meeting was irregular due to Governor’s 10 maximum person in a group order, so the meeting was televised into the outer offices and on Facebook.
At the March 25 meeting of the Commissioners Court, the county and city approved splitting the cost of emergency air bottles for the Pittsburg Fire and Rescue. The air bottles have an average of 15 years of shelf life before they must be replaced. Judge Mason remarked that the fire department’s Wesley Kaiser had sent him a full report and analysis of the required bottles and their function in entering any smokefilled environment.
