Multiple counties stand in solidarity against Lake O’ the Pines water sale during NETMWD meeting

Residents and leaders from multiple counties of Northeast Texas gathered in the Northeast Texas Water Municipal District’s main office in Hughes Springs on Monday, February 24. The crowd spilled outside of the meeting room and filled the lobby with worried faces, dozens of people demanding that the NETMWD board listen to them and put a stop to the potential water sale of Lake O’ the Pines.

NETMWD updates the city regarding potential Lake O’ the Pines water sale

The Pittsburg City Council held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 18 and heard a presentation from Northeast Texas Municipal Water District (NETMWD). As previously printed in the Gazette, NETMWD released an official statement stating there are currently discussions with the North Texas Water District to sell or lease excess water from Lake O’ the Pines.

PJHS Student places first in VFW Patriots's Pen Essay

Hannah Sartain’s Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Patriot’s Pen Essay advanced to District. She earned first place and 300 dollars. This year’s theme was My Voice in America’s Democracy. Mrs. Wright was named the 2025 VFW District 12 Middle School Teacher of the Year. Pittsburg Junior High thanks the local VFW post for sponsoring the annual essay competitions. Awards were presented by Roman Eble (Jr Vice Commander for District 12/Post Commander), Dwayne Boyd, Gary Coppedge (Quartermaster), and Eppie Lackey (District 12 Auxiliary President).
