Camp County saves Christmas

Our community’s normal angel tree process was canceled this year because of the pandemic, but many stepped up to make sure our most vulnerable kids would have presents under their tree on Christmas morning. Alethea Smerdon of God’s Closet along with Elizabeth Williams & Jessica Lemarr created Operation North Star to be sure our most vulnerable kids will have food on their table & presents under the tree. The schools selected families that needed Christmas help. Jenny Thompson was one of many PISD employees that gathered the information for kids from their campuses for Operation North Star said “Knowing the joy that will be on a child’s face, that wouldn’t have otherwise had anything under their Christmas tree, is what it’s all about.” Many local businesses, churches & individuals did what they always do to help our kids, they rallied & gave with joined hearts but not joined hands this year.

Christmas for Camp Kids

Dr. Johnson and his staff at Camp County Chiropractic have a huge passion to help Camp kids; they set up 7 toy drive locations in Pittsburg: one at their chiropractic office, Pilgrim’s Bank, Dollar General, Burns Pawn, Kutt Me Clean, The Rustic Arrow and the Southern Blossom Bowtique. Dr. Johnson and his staff were beaming at the huge overflowing box of Christmas presents for Camp kids at their office and at the other 6 toy drive locations. Camp County Chiropractic gathered the toys and brought them to God’s Closet on the Dec. 7 the but God’s Closet will keep collecting and emptying the boxes right up until Christmas. Linda Graham. of Camp County Chiropractic, has been working with Christmas for Camp kids for 10 years now. When Graham was asked why she gathers toys every year for Camp Kids, she replied “I just do it for the kid’s smile, to see them smile. That’s what it’s all about. My heart has always been with the kids.” That is a pretty common answer around our county from all the businesses, churches & individuals that love to help our children. Camp County Chiropractic has a huge heart for kids in our community and love collecting the toys every year. Giving the kids a great Christmas this year during the stress of a pandemic is all the more critical.

Online puppy scams on the rise

The COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically increased demand for pets as people seek adding a pet to the family to ease the loneliness and tension of prolonged time at home. Many feel that they now have more time to train a puppy. With this rising demand has come a spike in pet scams, in which an online search ends with a would-be pet owner paying hundreds of dollars or more to purchase a pet that ultimately doesn’t exist. Better Business Bureau (BBB) advises extreme caution when shopping for a pet online, especially in light of scammers’ evolving tactics.
