Preserve Northeast Texas – Stop Marvin Nichols

As a fourth generation East Texan, a property owner, a businessman, a father, an Eagle Scout, and as Mayor of my hometown of Atlanta, Texas – not to mention a lifelong advocate for private property rights and personal responsibility – the proposed Marvin Nichols Reservoir flies in the face of all I hold dear. And while my ancestral homestead is not in the proposed taking, it is heritage farmland; and only a matter of time before big cities and big spenders swiftly run through whatever resources they are able to procure from us now, only to come back for more later. Burgdorf 70th Anniversary

Burgdorf 70th Anniversary

Lois and Ted Burgdorf celebrated 70 years of marriage this month by gathering with their family and community of friends at Grace Lutheran Church near Lake Cypress Springs, Texas. They met as college students in Mankato, Minnesota, and were married in New Prague, Minnesota, on August 14, 1951. During their courtship, Ted served in the US Army for three years while Lois worked as an elementary school teacher. Soon after they were married, they moved to Dallas, Texas, where Ted began his successful career in the automobile business and Lois relished her role as a homemaker raising their four sons: Dale, Darrell, David, Douglas and one daughter, Diane. Their extended family includes six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, with number ten due this December. COURTESY PHOTO
