Convention of States will have a meeting for the 1st Senate District on September 11 from 11 am - 1 pm at Texas Music City in Tyler. Scott McDonald will be the guest speaker and will discuss the voting machines used in the State of Texas, who funded their development, and how the companies producing the machines have changed their names over the years. This is a non-partisan organization attempting to call a Convention of the United States in order to propose amendments to the US Constitution. Their goal is to rein-in federal government overreach.
More than 600 new laws signed into law by Governor Greg Abbott went into effect Sept. 1. The new state laws — including one of the most restrictive abortion laws in the country, the right to carry handguns both concealed and openly without a license, changes to election law and a bill allowing restaurants to sell alcohol to go — were passed during the regular session of the legislature, which ended May 31. The House and Senate adjourned their second special session Thursday night.
