Don’t Worry, Be Happy
The year was 1988 – my freshman year in high school. “Die Hard” was the big summer blockbuster. Roseanne Barr was becoming a household name. George H. W. Bush was elected president.

When the man walked in and put the money on my desk, I knew he was honoring the Lord with his gift. When the woman came inside my office a few hours later smiling, I knew she too, was giving glory to the Lord with her gift. To complete the call that God has placed upon your life, you must press into the Kingdom of God on a daily basis. I love how the Philippians 3:14 starts out with the personal pronoun I, which makes it very personal. The second word is the word press. Press means to move forward toward something. The word goal in this passage refers to a finish line at the end of a race. Many people are goal oriented and like to set goals. Just like guys in the gym that always ask each other, “How much can you bench press?” These guys are pressing towards a goal to become stronger. They mark their strength by how much they can lift or how much weight they can get under and successfully press it off. Bench pressing is natural strength but this passage is talking about supernatural strength.
