Contract for jail expansion approved

The jail expansion project is forging ahead. During regular session on Jan. 12, the Commissioners Court approved a contract with DRG Architects who agree to perform the necessary work. Funds for this project will come from the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, rather than additional local, county taxpayer dollars. Cost for the architectural services is a set fee of $120,000. This does not include any further fees or subcontracted work beyond the contract with DRG Architects.

Truck rolls over on Hwy 11

Logan Cluff-Amperse, 18 of Commerce, was thrown from his 1995 F150 truck on Highway 11 west of Leesburg on Jan. 11 when he lost control of his pickup. According to a DPS report, he was traveling eastbound and lost control of the vehicle going around a curve, causing the vehicle to overturn. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected. Sustaining incapacitating injuries, he was trasported to a local hospital. His condition was unknown at press time. Traffic was held up for roughly an hour and a half while the situation was brought under control and items that were thrown from the truck, including nails, were gathered.

City council approves new member to Main Street Advisory Board

A contract between the City of Pittsburg and Hayes Engineering, Inc. was approved by the City Council during the regular meeting on Jan. 10. Hayes Engineering, Inc. agrees to perform the work necessary for the 2021 Downtown Revitalization Program for sidewalk improvements on Rusk and Compress Streets under the direction of the Texas Community Development Block Grant.
