The City of Pittsburg, Texas, USA had a varied year in 2021. There have been multiple difficulties including a pandemic and winter storm, and there have been advancements in the city such as developments downtown and infrastructure improvements. Mayor Abernathy, City Manager Clint Hardeman, and Community Development Coordinator Niecy Baum offered some insight into the city’s activities for the past year.

For as far back as I can remember, we always had black-eyed peas as part of the main meal for New Year’s Day. There were several vague theories as to why, but nobody seemed to know for sure. Well, a quick check reveals two theories, both of which are plausible, but both remain theories. Both theories center on them having a “mythical and mystical power to bring good luck,” although nobody knows for certain how they came to be viewed as a good luck charm.
