Have a Heart – Make a Heart

Cypress Basin Hospice is offering a Love Letter Challenge: create Valentine’s Day cards for seniors. “The pandemic has been difficult for everyone but the seniors in our community have been especially impacted.” Everyone is invited to make a homemade Valentine’s Day card with words of encouragement, Bible verses, or any uplifting words. Construction paper is recommended–no glitter or candy, please. Cards may be dropped off at Cypress Basin Hospice at 207 Morgan Street, Mt. Pleasant, or call Christine Jackson, Volunteer Services Coordinator, at 903-577-1510 to schedule a pickup no later than Feb. 2. Cards will be delivered to Senior Care Facilities during the week of Feb. 7.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration

A march and celebration service honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will take place on Jan. 17 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Pilgrim Plaza. The march will end at St. Stephen AME Church, 419 West St. in Pittsburg where the celebration service will begin at 11 a.m. Tristan Abron, Pittsburg ISD athletic director, will be the guest speaker. Donation helps embellish NTCC tradition

James Bradley Witt, Gary Gibson Witt, and Beverly Witt Wootten have provided a generous scholarship in the name of their parents, Dr. and Mrs. Bradley Witt. The fund will cover registrations and costs for six student scholars of NTCC to present their research at meetings of the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) in six successive years. The NCHC is the oldest and most prestigious association for twoand four-year honors programs, and colleges in the United States. Formed in 1966, it includes 900 member-institutions in Europe and America, and publishes two refereed journals and a monograph series.
