The Frederick Douglass Alumni Association celebrated their 23rd Grand Reunion on July 29-31. Alumni came from Dallas, California, Arizona, and Houston to enjoy the festivities at the Douglass Alumni Community Center. Dorothy Reid came from Denver, Colorado and brought her family as well, purchasing 17 tickets to the barbeque lunch on Saturday afternoon.
Beto O’Rourke visited Pittsburg on July 28 and spoke to a large crowd in the Douglass Alumni Community Center. Several counties were represented including Camp, Morris, Titus, and Wood.
On July 27, the Camp County Commissioners approved the appointment of Curtis Rath as a member of the Board of North East Texas Regional Mobility Authority (NET RMA). Composed of Bowie, Camp, Cass, Cherokee, Gregg, Harrison, Kaufman, Panola, Rusk, Smith, Titus, Upshur, Van Zandt, and Wood counties, NET RMA is an independent government agency, directed by a 21-member board, whose mission is to accelerate the development of transportation projects in North East Texas.
Pittsburg’s Lions Club members showcase the school supplies and monetary donations they gathered for the Camp County School Supply Distribution hosted by God’s Closet. They also enjoyed a presentation by the Camp County EMS team by Brandon Hooper, Mike Huerta and Mark Isman, The EMS spoke on important matters such as stroke awareness and hands-only CPR . They held a demonstration of hands-free CPR with the LU- CAS device. Hooper explained how the LUCAS has changed the health care and emergency response capabilities in Camp County and how it has improved the chances of survival for patients.
As summer winds down, the roads will be filled with buses transporting students to and from school. In some areas, there may even be an influx of students walking or riding bicycles to school. As drivers, attention and diligence is key to helping students arrive safely at school.
