Mobil station in Newsome

Mobil station in Newsome

This sketch was made in 1973 from the memory of Don Malone, of Norco, California, the son of a former resident, Elaine (Drennan) Calliham, also residing in California. Highway 11 (in Newsome) ran past the front of the Mobil station and at this point paralleled with the railroad. This was the favorite “gathering place” when Tom Dowse and Johnny Stewart owned and operated the state. In the background was T.H. Barrett’s potato house and a blacksmith shop, which was owned and operated by several families at different times.
