2023 Hee Haw’s Back in Town

Twenty-five years ago, Elizabeth Reynolds Lawton and I were senior class sponsors at Pittsburg High School. We were trying to figure out an easy fundraiser to help pay for prom decorations. Several years prior, Ann Beane had written a script for a Hee Haw play, and if I remember correctly, it was only about three pages. The last script that I wrote for the 2008 senior class was twenty-five pages. Elizabeth and I surveyed the class and decided doing Hee Haw would be something fun for the class and us to do. Little did either of us know that this simple play would turn into a major production with guest singers as talented as the stars at Branson.

Gov. Abbott sends words of hope to those opposed to Marvin Nichols

The conflict over the massive, proposed reservoir in the Sulphur River bottoms of Northeast Texas continues on this week, even as a gross example of water waste is being constructed on the shores of Lake Ray Hubbard in Rowlett. The so named Sapphire Bay resort will include a 7-acre man-made lagoon and a 600-foot special lagoon made for surfing. Those in Northeast Texas who are asking Region C for conservation efforts instead of taking their land for a lake are calling into question just how many gallons of water daily will this man-made recreational use only water hog require?

Is the “selfie phenomena” taking over?

Is the “selfie phenomena” taking over?

Ok, so I have admitted in previous columns that I am a Facebook junkie. When I cannot sleep, I check Facebook. When we are in the car, and my husband is driving, I am on Facebook! And Facebook is an integral part of how I keep up with my some of my family. Being on Facebook a lot means I see a TON of the ever-so popular “selfie” phenomena. And you know, “selfies” are a lot like this column. They are the subjects perspective of themselves. I have never been one to take a selfie. I will admit it… the few I have attempted looked like they were straight out of some horror show! I have never felt I took great pictures anyway, much less while extending my arm straight out and attempting to get the “just-right” look on my face. If I try to smile, I look like a goofy little kid. If I try and not smile, I look like someone just took my dog! So, for all those checking my page after reading this, you will not find any selfies there!
