Leyva completes award-winning stay at NTCC

2018 Mount Pleasant Salutatorian, Verania Leyva Garcia, has concluded her twoyear stay at Northeast Texas Community College with a decision to transfer to the University of Texas at Austin in the fall, and a resolve to advance further in biomedical studies. She will be receiving a full-tuition scholarship. In her sophomore year, Leyva was the college’s second Dr. Jerry Wesson Scholar for superior academic work in her freshman year, and she will follow the previous Wesson Scholar, Matthew Chambers, to Austin’s forty-acre downtown campus.

Gary George named new Rotary Club president

Last Wednesday, Kay Green stepped down as president of the Pittsburg chapter of the Rotary Club as Gary George took her place. Green said it was a bittersweet moment - that she was ready to be done but felt wistful of her time as president. She will now serve Rotary at the district level. George presented Green with an engraved sculpture, thanking her for her years of service to the club, and joked that he had asked her to serve a third.
