On Sept. 18, the Peach Queen Coronation was held at the Pittsburg High School Auditorium. 2024 Peach Queen Emily Jayde Janway was crowned at this time.

On Tuesday, Sept 17, Union Pacific’s steam locomotive, Big Boy No. 4014, traveled from Texarkana to Dallas. Along the way, it went through Pittsburg and many were able to witness the experience. Many present placed pennies along the track beforehand, and the pennies were then flattened by the train. The locomotive has been traveling through the United States as part of its eight-week long, “Heartland of America Tour.”

Last Saturday during Pittsburg’s 51st Pioneer Days, one of the events was the opening of the time capsule that was buried in 1974. A few of the contents were letters from state and local officials, brochures for 1974 vehicles, Sears catalogs, a telephone directory, and a Pittsburg High School yearbook.
