So easy to dance with
Ms. Dorothy Wilson, 102, danced with her son Jeff Wilson, 60, during the Prom held recently at Southern Wind. Ms. Dorothy has not been able to walk for nearly a year, but requested that she be able to dance with her son while he visited her. Jeff held his mother as they gently danced to live music, to the tearful joy of the many people watching who know and care for Ms. Dorothy Wilson.

Dr. Jonathan McCullough (right), NTCC Executive Vice President for Advancement, is pictured receiving the check from Brother Tim Hall, Worshipful Master of Frank Sexton Lodge #206. The money will be added the Frank Sexton Masonic Lodge #60 Endowed Scholarship fund at NTCC. In addition, the donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar by a grant program that is designated for at-risk students, which doubles the impact of the gift from the Lodge! The college is currently accepting applications for scholarships for the 2022-2023 academic year. The NTCC Foundation awards around 400 scholarships, like the one provided by the Frank Sexton Lodge #206, to deserving students each year. Prospective students can apply online at www.ntcc. edu/scholarships. COURTESY PHOTO
Christmas Cactus
The Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera bridgessii) is a winter-flowering houseplant that will do well in nearly any indoor setting. It’s attractive, easy to care for, even more easy to propagate, and is often given as a Christmas gift. The plant is usually 6-12” tall and 12-24” wide and prefers a pH of neutral to slightly acidic. Not surprisingly, it blooms in winter, just in time for Christmas!
