“Parkinson’s always wins, but it doesn’t have to win every day.” That is the motto for retired head coach turned author Lloyd Fields, a DeKalb native who has been battling stage 3 atypical Parkinson’s. He wants to prove that people diagnosed with Parkinson’s can still be functional members of society.
Pittsburg is welcoming a new cafe to the city called Madeline’s Cafe. The owner, Salina Dollinger, honors her mother Madeline for whom the cafe is named and their Samoan culture, by the display of tribal artwork and serving some traditional Samoan food. The cafe lunch also includes bright and healthy sandwiches, soups and salads. Signature blended coffee is a wonderful way to start your morning with a varied Express Breakfast menu.
Quilting is a special art, requiring many hours of patience and a few pricked fingers. There are several ladies who take pride in their quilts, putting much effort into them.
The volunteers at God’s Closet have been giving coats and warm pajamas to the kids of the community. They still have a large rack of warm jackets and winter coats to give away. There will be a book signing on Dec. 4 in Pendergrass Park. Cary Efurd is the author of “Road to Recover--To L and Back”, a recently published book outlining his journey from trauma to triumph and eventual victory in Christ.
