City plans beautification project

In 2019 the City of Pittsburg submitted an application for funding through the Texas department of agriculture, Texas Capital Fund – Main Street Program. The specific grant program objective is to provide public infrastructure improvements such as accessible sidewalks in the community’s Main Street area. The city’s application to improve parking and accessible sidewalks in the Main Street area was awarded for the full amount of $350,000 in 2020. In December of 2020 the City Council took action to award a bid for construction. In January the construction began to improve sidewalks and lighting along Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. from Jefferson Street to College Street. In addition to the sidewalk improvements, additional parking spaces will be added as part of the project. As our community grows and new development occurs, the need for improved walkability and additional offstreet parking in the Main Street area increases. Efforts to enhance the community’s downtown are one of the City Council and Main Street Committee focuses. This proposed project will help improve the efforts to make a more pedestrian-friendly downtown, which supports our local businesses so visitors can safely park and explore the downtown shops and restaurants.

New pastor welcomed in Pittsburg

New pastor welcomed in Pittsburg

The Pentecostals of Pittsburg have welcomed new Pastor Chase Combs to the family. Combs and his family moved to Pittsburg from Porter, Texas a week before Christmas after finding out the Combs had secured the position of pastor. He was voted in as pastor on Nov. 16, 2020, after doing a trial sermon one Sunday for all the members of the church. The members were then able to stay after and ask questions. Combs reported that everyone from the church stayed and they had a potluck while asking him why he should be their pastor.
