City council holds regular meeting
On Monday March 18, the city council had their monthly meeting and Leslie Winton, an auditor with Wilf & Henderson, gave a presentation for consideration and approval of the audit for the 2022-2023 fiscal year. The opinion of the auditors is that the city’s budget is materially correct.
School Board hears from DECA Students
The Pittsburg ISD DECA & Entrepreneurship members presented to the school board on Monday March 18. Here they shared the importance of DECA and the details of their recent competition. Senior Melody Burrow, describes, “DECA’s mission is to prepare emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management.” Throughout the year, DECA members participate in many projects “most of them related to financial literacy, career development, that are based on mutual activities,” states senior Karissa Davis. The team is attending DECA International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, California in late April, with Davis advancing in the competition with her sales project.
Commissioners Court meets with DRG Architect
In a regularly scheduled meeting of the commissioners court, the commissioners met with an architect from DRG Architects, Wayne Gondeck, where he gave a response to the construction of the Camp County Jail. Gondeck’s response to the comment that all jails need to have cameras in the cells was, “Jail commission does not require video surveillance in the cells,” and mentions that across the state of Texas, having cameras in jail cells is “about fifty-fifty.”
