CASA welcome new advocates

CASA of Titus, Camp, and Morris Counties is pleased to welcome Ashley Robertson and Terri Marchan! Ashley and Terri took an oath before the Honorable Judge Rolston in Titus County on March 18, 2021. Ashley and Terri completed 30 hours of training and courtroom observation. Ashley and Terri are the newest CASA volunteers who have accepted their first case and advocating for children that are in the foster care system. CASA volunteers work for the best interest of the child/ children making sure they have a safe, permanent home as quickly as possible. CASA volunteers are citizens in our community, just like you, that want to make a difference in a child/children’s lives while they are removed from their families and placed in foster care. Upshur County jury sentences Smith County woman to ninety-nine years in prison

The 115th District Court for Upshur County convened on January 22, 2020 for the sentencing trial of Felisha Diane Williams, 39, of Smith County, Texas, Ms. Williams was scheduled for a jury trial on January 13, 2020, but changed her plea the morning of trial. Ms. Williams pled guilty to the offense of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group One, More than Four Grams but Less than 200 Grams, with the Intent to Deliver, a First Degree felony. Although she pled guilty, she declined the State’s offer of twenty years and instead chose for a jury to decide her punishment. Due to her previous felony convictions, she faced an enhanced punishment range of 15 years to life, rather than the normal punishment range of five to ninety-nine years or life in prison.
