Savory scents from multiple competitions in Hot Links, Cultural Dishes, Chicken, Sausage and the Chili Cook Off pervaded downtown on April 29 during the annual Texas Hot Links Festival. (See page 10 for the winners.)
On the east wall of the Hot Links Restaurant, a mural is being painted that will offer a taste of what has made Pittsburg the Hot Links Capitol of Texas, and the town that it is today.
The Camp County Historical Commission dedicated the newest Historical Marker in Camp County at the Leesburg Cemetery on April 29. Honoring Carroll Shelby, this marker stands watch near the site where Shelby was laid to rest close to the members of his family. This marker was made possible by the dedicated efforts of many people including Ned Muse, Carolyn Anders, Bette Holcomb, Linda Alford, Elliott Ford, and Steve Borkowski. No marker can be approved by the state without literally pages of research, and this project took roughly a year to come to fruition.
According to the Pittsburg Police, Kiem L. Howard, 25, was arrested on April 29 for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The altercation began in the Flying Cow located downtown, but the incident actually took place on Marshall Street at about 3 p.m.
The Mount Pleasant Tribune and Pittsburg Gazette combined to win two first place awards and place in the top five in nine different categories at the 2023 Better Newspaper Contest during the 96th annual North and East Texas Press Association (NETPA) Convention, held this past weekend.
