Juanice was born on the Nelson family farm in Upshur County in East Texas on October 3, 1934, to James Otis Nelson and Nellie Rayburn Nelson. She graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1952 and attended East Texas Baptist University her freshman year in pursuit of becoming a teacher. After her freshman year, she returned home to help on the farm again. Later she moved to Dallas where she was employed as an elevator operator and then began her carrier with 3M Company as a switch board operator.

National Guard assists Southern Wind Manor

On Monday, August 24, over a dozen members of the National Guard were unloading COVID 19 testing materials from a rental truck in the parking lot of Southern Wind Manor Assisted Living. They were there at the request of Administrator Matthew Wallace. Just over two weeks ago, Wallace sent home a staff member who was not feeling well. Several days later she called him with the news that she has tested positive for COVID 19. Wallace and his staff members took immediate action and began assessing staff and residents. A second employee who tested positive but was asymptomatic, immediately began her quarantine at home as well.
