Yes Virginia, Trees Talk to Each Other

I’m not sure when scientists learned that plants can talk, but it definitely opened up a new world to them. Corn, for example, when attacked by a corn earworm, begins talking via a chemical aroma telling other corn plants they are in trouble. All within range begin sending aromas to attract enemies of the pest. Additionally, the affect plant’s roots begin clicking or popping (extremely low frequency) by bursting cells telling other roots it’s under attack. Other plants in range then begin clicking.

East Texas Junior Golf Tour to start in June

The East Texas Junior Golf Tour is in its fifth year providing summer golf tournaments for East Texas area youth. This tour allows youth golfers to compete in tournaments and accumulate points based upon where they place in each tournament to qualify for a 36-hole Tour Championship to be played at Mount Pleasant Country Club. In the Tour Championship the youth golfers have caddies to carry their clubs and give advice on Club and shot selection.

Painting in shades of hope

David Freeman, a local artist with over twenty years of professional experience, has taken time this month to spread joy throughout Mount Pleasant during the COVID-19 pandemic. The project began with Diamond T Outfitters contracting him for window murals, and La Vie company followed. Soon, almost every business in downtown was decorated by Freeman’s hand. Each business chose the design for their storefront, and Freeman delivered.
