Jones

Funeral Services for Harold Jones, 70, of Pittsburg were held Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at 10 a.m. at Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Pittsburg with Bro. Larry Neeley officiating. Interment will be in Concord Cemetery in Hughes Springs.

Harold Byron Jones was born the sixth of eight children, to Byron and Beulah Jones on June 11, 1948. He was greeted in Heaven on May 25, 2019, by his wife, Judy Rainey Jones, his parents and brother and sister, Jimmy Charles Jones and Mattie Lee Jones Huffman.

Jones was an independent concessionaire and farmer. He enjoyed traveling and made friends everywhere his travels took him. He was a member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Hughes Springs. After being a truck driver for many years, he met and married his love, Judy Faye, and made his home in Pittsburg where he enjoyed raising cattle and raised a little hell.

He is survived by his son, Dayton Harold Dwight Jones and his favorite daughter-in-law, Kriste, of Hughes Springs, step-daughter, Jana Carnes Barnett of Gilmer; two grandsons, Cody Jones and wife Taylor, and Bubba Jones of Hughes Springs; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Royce and Dana Jones and Horace and Linda Jones of Hughes Springs and Jerry Jones of Atlanta. He is also survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Beth and Frank Beckett of Hughes Springs and Diann and John Young of Marietta. He leaves behind two special friends, Carolyn Smith and Luther Westmoreland, a nephew he loved as his own, Jeremy Bullard; and a passel of nieces and nephews who will for forever cherish the memories of their “Uncle Hammer.”

His greatest joy came from being surrounded by his family and friends, and if that time was spent fishing or hunting, that was even better. He told a story like none other, and even if it wasn’t true, he had the ability to convince you that it was. His personality was bigger than this life and if you had the pleasure of knowing him, you will never forget him.

Visitation was held Tuesday, May 28, 2019, from 5-6 p.m. at Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel.
