Jo Ann Barnes

Mrs. Jo Ann Barnes, age 89, of Pittsburg, passed away on Monday, November 29, 2021 in Mt. Pleasant. She was born July 31, 1932 to Morris Sheppard Goolsby and Faye Garnet Spratt Goolsby in Pittsburg.

She was a member of the New Mine Baptist Church in Pittsburg. She held many jobs over the years, including running the Gold Bond Stamp Store next to the old Piggly Wiggly, working at the Camp County Public Library, and being a nanny for several local children, but the job she will be best remembered for is being a mother and grandmother, and a homemaker who kept the house clean and everyone fed. She had a great sense of humor, and there weren’t many jokes she would shy away from.

She is survived by her son, Philip Laden and spouse Phil Alvarado; daughter, Leah Reagan and husband James; grandchildren, Jennifer Cooley, Matthew Laden, Grant Beene, Harrison Reagan, Gracie Reagan; great-grandchildren, Jack Lea, Jonas Lea, and Lucas Lea.

She is preceded in death by her sons, Mark Laden, and David Laden; her parents; and her brother, David Spratt Goolsby.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at the Erman Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tim Parker officiating with interment to follow at New Mine Cemetery in Camp County. Pallbearers will be Phil Alvarado, Matthew Laden, Harrison Reagan, Gary Dobbs, Scott Pershbacher, and James Reagan. There will be a visitation held before the service beginning at 12:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
