Clemens

Mel Clemens, 78, died Jan. 20, 2019, at his home in Quitman, Texas.

Graveside services were held Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019, at Hopewell Cemetery in Winnsboro with Ps. Mike Sullivan and Bro. Fred Morrow officiating.

Clemens was born in Pittsburg, Texas June 20, 1940 to the late Tom and Georgie Pearl Clemens. He was a Wood County resident since 1958 and attended Forrest Hill Baptist Church. Clemens was a self-employed welder and rancher and a former member of the Professional Rodeo Association, Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association, and Texas Rodeo Association. On October 3, 2009 he married Sue Boyd Clemens in Quitman.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Georgie Clemens, and one brother, Tomie Joe Clemens.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of nine years, Sue Clemens of Quitman; daughter, Renee Blair and husband James of Como; step-children, Barry Boyd and wife Donna of College Station and Kristi Hirsch of Quitman; three brothers, CC Clemens of Alba, Thomas Clemens of Tyler, and David Clemens of Pittsburg; sister, Margie Slider of Pittsburg; step-brothers, Dale Langford of Katy and Mickey Langford of Pittsburg; two grandchildren, John Denney and wife Christi and Bryan Denney; three great-grandchildren, Clara, Adelyn, and Lane; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.

Serving as pallbearers were Kyle Hayes, Billy Thompson, Brad Von Reyn, and Billy Patrick.
