Mitchell takes reins as Publisher

Northeast Texas publisher Kenny Mitchell has been named the new publisher at the Steel Country Bee in Daingerfield, the Pittsburg Gazette and the Mount Pleasant Tribune. Mitchell brings over 20 years of experience in the newspaper industry to his new role, including nine years at the Dallas Morning News.

Mitchell assumed his new role on Monday, after being publisher of the Bowie County Citizens Tribune in New Boston since 2013. Mitchell and his family moved from Dallas in 1996 and have lived in Avery, DeKalb and New Boston since their arrival in Northeast Texas.

He has three children, and two grandchildren, all who live in Bowie County. His wife of 30 years, Patty, passed away in 2018 after a long illness.

He says, “I am excited about this new opportunity and what it will mean to the readers and advertisers of the Bee, Gazette and Tribune. We have a great staff in place, and we will be working hard to bring our readers the best possible paper to their door every issue.
