Brett McGee named to All-GAC Baseball first team

Pittsburg native Brett McGee has made quite the name for himself in college baseball. Regularly recognized for his prowess as a catcher, McGee has now been given an additional honor. The college sophomore has been named to the All-GAC Baseball First Team with unanimous selection.

This is not the first time the Great American Conference has selected McGee for honors. In February 2019, February 2021, and April 2021, McGee was named GAC’s player of the week. When he was last chosen on April 27, GAC said of McGee, “McGee reached base 12 times in 19 plate appearances in the Muleriders’ four games last week. In Tuesday’s contest against nationally-ranked UT Tyler, he hit a grand slam and drove in six runs. In SAU’s sweep of Southern Nazarene, he went 6-for-10 with a pair of home runs and a stolen base. For the week, he slugged 1.267 and scored six runs.”

McGee is a 2018 graduate of Pittsburg High School and was earning recognition for his skill long before he reached college. Since he has been with Southern Arkansas University, McGee’s stats have shown great success on the field:

Played in 38 games, making 37 starts. 300 batting average (39-130). 28 runs scored, 26 RBIs. 11 doubles, two triples, two home runs. 60 total bases. .462 slugging percentage. 28 walks, three hits by pitches, 34 strikeouts. 0.424 on-base percentage. 178 putouts, 17 assists, three errors, .985 fielding percentage.

2020

Played in and started all 23 games in a shortened season. hit .424 (28-66). 22 runs scored, 22 RBIs. Three doubles, nine home runs. 58 total bases. .879 slugging percentage. 25 walks, six-hit by pitches, 12 strikeouts. .596 on-base percentage. 169 putouts, 20 assists, .995 fielding percentage.
