This year will mark the 50th anniversary of the Pioneer Days festival in Pittsburg. But Pioneer Days started a long time ago, well over a century in fact. There were several different fairs, festivals, and events, that eventually crystallized into Pioneer Days, and each of them were a part of forming Camp County as we know it today.
The Camp County Sheriff’s Office has reported that construction on the Camp County Jail expansion project has begun, which will expand the jail’s capacity to 52.
Beginning construction in March 2021, State Loop 255 started out as Farm-to-Market Road 3535. But it was discovered that state funds were becoming difficult to procure, so the road was re-named State Loop 255. R&G Construction, LLC of Marshall won the bid for the project at $5.6 million. Camp County submitted $34,672 in matching funds to the state to build this road which will be roughly 3- 4 miles long when completed.
