Congresswoman Barbara Charline Jordan
Barbara Charline Jordan (February 21, 1936 – January 17, 1996) was a Texas-born politician, lawyer, and educator. A member of the Democratic Party, she was the first African American elected to the Texas Senate since Reconstruction, the first southern African-American woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Known for her oratorical abilities, in 1976, she became the first African American, and the first woman, to deliver a keynote address at a Democratic National Convention.
SNAP Program making changes April 1
Those utilizing the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will be restricted from buying candy or sweetened beverages with their Lone Star Cards in Texas starting in April. In the state of Texas, SNAP is supplied through a Lone Star Card that can be used similar to a credit card at any store that accepts SNAP.
Oil leak at Lone Star Lake
On March 13, the City of Lone Star was made aware of an oil spill that occurred in Lone Star Lake at Ellison Creek Reservoir.
