PISD Board of Trustees look to change dress code
In a meeting on June 14, the Pittsburg ISD Board of Trustees discussed possible changes to the school district’s dress code. The board is looking to change wording around the district’s dress and grooming standard, which, according to the board, has been hard to enforce, especially amid COVID-19. Facial hair and jewelry have especially been tough to enforce with students’ use of masks during school.
Standards are still at the administration’s discretion; however, the standard is being relaxed. One of the biggest changes comes to young men’s grooming. Instead of restrictions on hair not extending past the earlobe, eyebrow, or collar, young men will have to simply keep their hair and facial hair well-groomed and neat. The old prohibition on distracting hairstyles still applies.
Other changes include a change to jewelry and tattoo standards. With jewelry, young men can wear simple earrings now, so long as they are not distracting; the same standard as for young women. Tattoos now share the same restrictions as shirts, with inappropriate tattoos still prohibited while appropriate tattoos may be uncovered.
