• Almost 400 attend a banquet honoring former Mayor D. H. Abernathy after his retirement of 52 years as Pittsburg’s mayor.
• Annie Fuller married a G.I. 52 years ago and came to America. She became a U.S. citizen and eventually moved to Pittsburg 26 years ago.
• Continuing discussion was held at the Northeast Texas Municipal Water District for expanding the Mims Water Treatment plant. Joncie Young with KSA Engineers updated procedures for the board, including the routing of the pipeline.
• Hank Gilbert, the Democratic candidate for a commissioner of agriculture, will make a campaign stop in Pittsburg Saturday.
• Lamar Hughes, from Pittsburg, recently completed his second season playing point guard for the Miles Community College Pioneers in Miles City, Mont. Hughes came to the Pioneers as an All-District and All-State performer in high school, and stepped into the Pioneer team immediately.
• A retirement party will be held for Mark Disman tomorrow from 2 until 4 p.m. at Capital One Bank. His last day of work was Wednesday, May 31. Mr. Disman has worked at the bank for 18 years.

• Approximately 200 Camp County residents gathered at the Prayer Tower for a prayer and praise rally after a 11/2-mile march.
• Steven L. Simmons is sworn into the legal profession by the Hon. Jimmy L. White.
• Middle school majorettes are chosen for the 1996-97 school year. They are Julie Brown, drum major; Erica Taylor, Aryn Goldsmith, Amy Mitcham, Lauren Moore, Stacy Attaway, and Billie Jo Greer.

• Bo Pilgrim receives ‘Marketeer of the Year’ award from the Dallas/Fort Worth American Marketing Association.

• Craig Rountree won the Camp County March of Dimes Walkathon contest. He completed the 20-mile hike May 15, and collected $589 from sponsors and donors. He won a 26-inch, 10-speed bike for his efforts.
55 YEARS AGO
• Voters return to the polls Saturday for the second primary.
65 YEARS AGO
• Forty-six students graduate from Douglass High School.
75 YEARS AGO
• Irish potato crop was good despite the excessive rains.
• Herbert Hoover said 800,000 people in the United States were threatened with starvation.
• Boy Scouts call at Pittsburg homes for food and clothing.

• H.B. Howard and sons were planning to plant 100 acres in sweet potatoes in Arkansas.
110 YEARS AGO
• The prohibition campaign in Camp County was being managed by T.E. Russell.
115 YEARS AGO
• S.E. Watson was chosen president of Jeff Davis College. The teachers were Rosa Bass, Ethel Knowles, and Leola Trotter.
