City officers sworn in, Police Chief Lemarr recognized

Mayor Abernathy takes the oath of office for Mayor of Pittsburg for another term. Mayor Abernathy has been a volunteer firefighter for over 47 years, was co-founder of the Camp County Emergency Medical Service (EMS) serving as its president for 13 years, served as volunteer fire marshal for over 30 years, and is a reserve deputy sheriff.

Councilmember Larry Hamilton takes the oath of office for another term as member of the Pittsburg City Council. Hamilton was a member of the 1980 Pirate football team that won the school’s only state championship in football.

Police Chief Lemarr is presented with an award for 20 years of service to Pittsburg in the Police Department. He began his career in 2002 as a jailer and worked his way to the position of Chief of Police, to which position he was promoted in August 2021. GAZETTE PHOTO / ELIZABETH LANNING
